Our Philosophy

282922880We use something called Restoration Therapy (RT).

It’s a marriage and family therapy model that combines attachment theory, emotional regulation, and mindfulness.

With RT, the focus is on your patterns of safety and identity.

It seeks to empower you by making you aware of your safety and identity patterns so that you can regulate your emotions and change your behavior.

If you want to do some search engine work before seeing us…

RT provides the therapist with a clear understanding of how violations of love and trust develop into problems of identity and safety. This keeps the therapist organized and focused on the patterns that are difficult to change.

As these patterns come to light through therapy, you’ll learn to make more thoughtful and informed choices about your personal beliefs, sense of self, and relationships.

With insights into what makes them feel safe and loved, you can make lasting changes in your life.

I realize that’s a bit “academic,” so let me break it down into regular language…

1682615425In life, especially during our early formative years…

We established our identity based on how we were loved. And we determined our sense of safety based on how trustworthy those around us were.

When either of these two things is violated…

We either blame others for not loving us how we should be loved or take on shame as an identity. If we don’t feel safe or our trust has been violated, we either try to control our environment (or relationships) or escape to avoid the hurt and pain.

“How’s that working out for you?

Unfortunately, these ways of coping through life’s tough times lead to separation, more hurt, isolation, and likely more violations of love and trust.

Oddly, we can be so accustomed to these coping mechanisms that they’re comfortable – to the point that we seek out relationships where we’ll get to play them out!

All the while, unaware of our patterns, we wonder why those relationships are strained or don’t last very long.

2179152927But you can learn a new way!

There is hope! Our therapists are highly skilled in identifying these patterns and how they show up in your relationships.

And when they do, they won’t just leave you there! They’ll help you escape those old patterns by learning to sustain a life grounded in love and trust.

Instead of ignoring or perpetuating pain, you’ll see that you already embody what you need to thrive through it based on truth.

There are lots of tools at our disposal.

Our practice is grounded in the Restoration Therapy Model, but our therapists are trained in several modalities. Please see each therapist’s profile for specifics on their areas of training and focus.

Our therapists receive ongoing training to keep their skills applicable and helpful to our clients. Be assured you will not work with anyone ill-equipped to assist with your presenting problems.

In addition, our therapists all have a strong foundation in their faith and are active members of a local church. So, if you desire it and it’s appropriate, we can incorporate faith practices into your therapy.

We can’t wait to meet you!
