Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office located?

“Downtown” Pflugerville – The entire half block of what is Downtown.

Here is the address:

203 West Main Street
Suite D
Pflugerville, TX 78660

Be sure to put Pflugerville in your search because there is another therapist at 203 West Main Street in Round Rock, also named Michael!

What are your hours?

Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The last session of the evening starts between 6:00 and 6:30 PM.

Those late hours go quickly, so book a week ahead if you need a session after 5:00 PM.

How long are sessions?

Couples sessions are 1.5 hours. Yep, I said an hour and a half (it’s on purpose), so come ready to work. You’ll be surprised at how quickly the time flies.

Family sessions are 1.5 to two hours. Family work takes time and focused attention (and lots of coffee).

Individual sessions are 50 to 60 minutes. Longer sessions are available upon request.

How much do you charge?

I charge $175 for 1.5-hour couples sessions.

Family sessions are $200.

Individual sessions are $150.

Do you take insurance?

We do not take insurance; it’s a private-pay-only practice.

Unfortunately, insurance companies dictate service type, cost, and length. As a private-pay practice, we reserve the right to determine the best treatment for you without an insurance company’s oversight.

Also, insurance companies require diagnoses. We focus on couples and families in our practice, and many insurance policies do not cover this service without at least one person having a diagnosis.

How do I set up an initial appointment?

Two options:

1. Call our administrative assistant at (512) 831-7676 (ext. 701) and set up a free 20-minute phone consultation with a therapist to find a good fit and answer your initial questions.

2. Submit the contact form on this website or schedule through our online portal. You will still get a 20-minute consultation call before the session is accepted and scheduled.

Once a session is accepted and scheduled, new clients will receive a link to our online portal to read, complete, sign, and resubmit necessary documents.

What is your cancellation policy?

Non-emergency cancellations must be made 24 hours before the scheduled session to avoid a charge.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice can be rescheduled without a fee.

“No shows” will be charged the full session fee.

What age ranges do you work with?

We see ages five and up. Please check out the “About” page for individual therapists to learn more about the clients they serve.

What do you actually do in sessions?

We dissect your brain! haha

You are entrusting us with very intimate parts of your life, so we make it a point to hear your journey, needs, and goals for treatment.

Captain Obvious says there is talking and listening, but we’ll dive into the root of your pain and give you tools to learn through and overcome it.

Is there homework?

Yes. You are asked to put into practice the tools you learn in session.

We will teach you how to know when you are dysregulated and the negative ways you have learned to cope. Then, we will help you explore the truth of who you are and regulate your emotions in a healthier way.

Knowing how to regulate your emotions when dysregulated is a learned skill. Doing so individually when in conflict with others is equally difficult.

The length of treatment greatly depends on your work between sessions.

What modalities do you use in your client work?

Restoration Therapy – A theory based in mindfulness, attachment, and emotional regulation

Solution-Focused Therapy – Establishing Goals and creating a roadmap for accomplishing those goals

New Contextual Therapy – Reshaping human relationships and solving problems using the strengths of trust, fairness, and freedom

What are your professional experiences and training?

I am trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Restoration Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I’m also an ordained minister. These might sound like foreign languages… unless you enjoy Dr. Google.

I have extensive experience working with adolescents from diverse communities and environments. My years as a vocational minister have given me the skill to integrate faith into the client experience when desired.

Above all, I’ve been married for more than 21 years. I’m a father of three boys (two teens and a preteen) and a son and brother in a family of six. So, I’ll have lots of stories that come up in sessions!

What else does a client need to know to make the most of your services?

Maybe another Captain Obvious moment…

I am a black male therapist, which many describe as a “unicorn.” I am not certain about that description, but my identity provides a unique perspective to my work with couples and families.
