About Ty Wilson

My road to becoming a therapist…

Some people find their purpose through what they’ve overcome. For me, that’s exactly the case.

At 20 years old, I survived a car accident that led to the amputation of my left leg. What followed wasn’t just physical recovery – it was a complete reimagining of what my life was for. Surrounded by family, faith, and community, I learned to walk again and discovered that my deepest calling was helping others find hope when hope feels out of reach.

That conviction has shaped every step since. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, I spent four years in college ministry, walking alongside high school and college students through some of the hardest seasons of their lives. I watched young men, in particular, struggle in silence – with identity, with shame, with patterns they couldn’t seem to break on their own. That experience didn’t just inform my clinical focus – it became it.

I am now completing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University and practicing as a Graduate Student Counselor at Whole Life Priorities, under clinical supervision. I am a Certified Sexual Addiction Recovery Coach and am actively pursuing a CSAT (Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist) certification – bringing both personal investment and professional training to a population that is often underserved and underrepresented in therapy.

I specialize in working with…

  • Individual adults navigating anxiety, depression, identity, and life transitions
  • Teen and adolescent males struggling with emotional regulation, self-worth, and relational patterns
  • Men and male adolescents dealing with pornography use or sexual behaviors that feel out of control – a population I serve with both clinical skill and genuine compassion
  • Premarital and young couples building a strong relational foundation before and early in marriage

If you’ve been carrying something in silence – especially something you’re not sure a therapist would understand – I am the counselor who will meet you where you are, without judgment.

I’m also a Black therapist in a field where Black clinicians are still rare – and that matters to me. If you’re looking for a counselor who looks and talks like you, I want you to know: I’m here.

When I’m not working as a therapist…

My wife Jackie and I have a son named Josiah. I come from one of the largest families in Texas, have met Beyoncé three times, and got married on the beach in Cancun. I love movies (Marvel to Charlie Chaplin), cooking (salmon, pasta, and cheesecake), and am always planning my next trip to somewhere in the world.

I am currently accepting new clients. To schedule with me, contact us at ty@wholelifepriorities.com or call (512) 831-7676.
